Site Clearing
Everything above ground, off the block and sorted on the way out
Clearing a block of structures, trees, stumps, vegetation and rubbish ready for construction. The scope is defined by what has to go and what has to stay, and the price is usually decided by where the material ends up rather than by how much of it there is.

Before anything starts
Six things have to be settled first, and not all of them are ours
Most jobs that run late run late on this list rather than on the work itself. Each line says who owns it.
- 01
Tree approval or exemption
Who You or your certifier
Mature trees commonly carry a protection order or an approval condition. This is the item that most often holds a clearing job up.
- 02
What stays
Who Agreed between you and us
Boundary fences, retained trees, a shed, a slab. Marked on site before anything starts.
- 03
Service location
Who Max, with a locator
Stumps and old footings sit near services more often than people expect.
- 04
Suspect material identified
Who Max, through an accredited laboratory
Old sheds, fencing and buried debris are all places fibro turns up on an older block.
- 05
Access and truck standing
Who Both of us
Whether a truck and dog can turn decides the number of loads.
- 06
Sediment control
Who Max
A cleared block runs water. Controlling it is a condition on most approvals.
Scope
What the quote does and does not cover
Stated side by side so there is nothing to discover later. Anything in the right hand column can be added, it is simply priced separately.
Included as standard
| Item | What that means |
|---|---|
| Structures | Sheds, carports, slabs, paths, fences and outbuildings within scope |
| Trees and stumps | Where approval permits, including grinding or grubbing out |
| Vegetation | Undergrowth, scrub and overgrown areas |
| Rubbish | Accumulated waste and debris |
| Separation | Green waste, clean concrete and mixed waste kept apart on the way out |
| Cartage | All material removed as it is generated |
Quoted separately
| Item | Why it is separate |
|---|---|
| Tree approvals | Obtained by you or your certifier before we can remove anything protected |
| Asbestos material | Removed under the asbestos pathway by licensed removalists |
| Contaminated or unsuitable soil | Classified and quoted separately |
| Excavation and levelling | A separate scope once the block is clear |
| Retaining walls shared with a neighbour | Whoever shares them has to authorise it |
| Replacement fencing | Builder or fencing trade work |
The detail
What makes a clearing job bigger than it looks
- The trees. A mature tree can be a protected item, a crane job, or both. It is the single most common reason a clearing quote and a clearing job differ.
- The destination of the material. Green waste, clean concrete, mixed rubbish and anything contaminated go to four different places at four different rates.
- What is buried. Old slabs, footings, fill and occasionally buried building waste. None of it is visible from the street.
- What has to stay. A retained tree or a shared fence turns open clearing into careful work around a thing that must not be damaged.
- Access. Whether a truck and dog can get in and turn changes the number of loads for the same volume of material.
- Whether fibro is present. On an older block, old sheds and fencing are both likely candidates and both have to be dealt with under the asbestos pathway.
What we need to quote it
- The address
- So we can look at access and what is around it
- Photographs
- One from the street and one of the work itself
- Any reports you hold
- Hazardous materials, structural, survey or levels
- Your dates
- What has to be finished by when, and what is waiting on it
We attend the site before quoting anything substantial.
Old sheds and fencing are where fibro hides
On a block built before 1990, the shed, the fence and the garage are as likely to be asbestos as the house is. It is identified and removed under clearance before the clearing starts.

Send photographs from the street and the rear
Two photographs and a note about what has to stay is most of a clearing scope. If there are mature trees, say so, because that is the item that moves the dates.
- Material separated on the way out so it leaves on the right rate
- Suspect material identified before anything is disturbed
- Cartage on the same contract
