Spoil Removal and Cartage
Truck and dog where the street allows it, tippers where it does not
Cartage of soil, rock and demolition waste with truck and dog, bogie tippers and 10 wheeler tippers. Priced by the load rather than the cubic metre, which is why what can legally stand at your kerb matters as much as how much material there is.
Carried out under demolition licence AD214737
Before anything starts
Six things have to be settled first, and not all of them are ours
Most jobs that run late run late on this list rather than on the work itself. Each line says who owns it.
- 01
Material classification
Who You, through a consultant where it is suspect
What the material is decides where it can go, and the destination decides the haul.
- 02
Access and standing
Who Both of us
Whether a truck and dog can turn and stand. This can change the load count by a third.
- 03
Permits where needed
Who Max, with council
Where a vehicle has to stand in a traffic lane or occupy a footpath.
- 04
Disposal facility booked
Who Max
Confirmed before the first load, not discovered when a truck arrives at a gate.
- 05
Loading arrangement
Who Both of us
Who loads, and whether the trucks are sequenced against a machine or loading from a stockpile.
- 06
Return load
Who Both of us
If fill or road base is coming back in, the same movement does two jobs.
Scope
What the quote does and does not cover
Stated side by side so there is nothing to discover later. Anything in the right hand column can be added, it is simply priced separately.
Included as standard
| Item | What that means |
|---|---|
| Vehicle supply | Matched to the site and the material |
| Loading | Where we are also doing the excavation or demolition |
| Covered transport | Loads covered as required |
| Disposal | At a facility licensed for the classification |
| Dockets | Collected and handed to you |
| Sequencing | Trucks lined up against the machine rather than booked separately |
Quoted separately
| Item | Why it is separate |
|---|---|
| Classification and sampling | Consultant work, before cartage |
| Disposal fees for unclassified material | Priced once it is classified |
| Asbestos material | Handled under the asbestos pathway |
| General household waste | Not a skip service |
| Loading by others | Where another contractor is loading, waiting time applies |
| Permits we are not told about | Arranged where we know they are needed |
The detail
What actually drives a cartage bill
- The number of loads, not the volume. A truck and dog carries considerably more per trip. If one cannot stand at the kerb, the same volume goes out in far more tipper loads.
- The haul distance. Set by the classification of the material rather than by the nearest gate.
- Waiting time. A truck standing while a machine digs is paid for. Sequencing removes most of it.
- Whether the load was mixed. One load of the worst material sets the rate for everything that travelled with it.
- Whether the return trip is empty. If fill is coming back, the same movement does two jobs.
- Permits and restrictions. Standing in a traffic lane, restricted hours or a weight limited road all change the vehicle and therefore the count.
What we need to quote it
- The address
- So we can look at access and what is around it
- Photographs
- One from the street and one of the work itself
- Any reports you hold
- Hazardous materials, structural, survey or levels
- Your dates
- What has to be finished by when, and what is waiting on it
We attend the site before quoting anything substantial.
The cheapest load is the one that comes back full
Where a site needs fill as well as spoil removal, the same movement does both, which is usually the largest single saving available on cartage.
Before you book
What people ask about this one
What is a truck and dog?
Can I book cartage on its own?
Why does the classification matter so much?
Do you cover the loads?
What do I get at the end?

Tell us the street and the material
The address, what is moving and roughly how much. The street is what tells us whether a truck and dog works, and that is the difference that matters.
- Vehicle matched to the street rather than to the volume
- Material classified before it moves
- Dockets collected and handed to you
